Site basics

Site basics holds the handful of details that describe your site as a whole: what it's called, the one-line description search engines show, how it looks, and whether the site is open to the public yet.

Site name

Your site name is used throughout Site Star and is the default public name for your website, for example Acme Plumbing. If your business name changes, this is the place to update it.

Ask Site Star Not supported yet

Site Star can't do this one for you yet. Check back soon; for now, the steps below do it in the Site Star dashboard.

Or do it yourself in the Site Star dashboard

Make sure you're on the Website tab, then open Settings in the sidebar. Site basics is the first section:

Edit Site name and save.

Site description

A short description, one or two sentences, that can show under your site in search results. It's your chance to say what you do in a way that makes someone click, so write it for a person deciding whether to visit, not for a search engine.

Ask Site Star

  • Change the site description to: Family-run plumbing in Austin since 1998. Same-day service, upfront pricing.
  • Write me a better site description for search results
Or do it yourself in the Site Star dashboard

In Settings → Site basics, edit Site description and save.

Your site's name and the line search engines can show.

Private access

Private mode puts a username and password in front of your site, so only people you share the login with can view it. It's useful when you want to show the site to a colleague before the public sees it.

  • Before your site launches, private mode is always on, so nothing is public until you're ready.
  • When you turn it on, Site Star generates a username and password to share. Only give them to people who should be able to see the site.
  • Changes to private mode take a few seconds to reach visitors.

Ask Site Star

  • Make my site private
  • What's the password for my private site?
  • Make my site public again
Or do it yourself in the Site Star dashboard

In Settings → Site basics, use the Private access switch. The username and password show there while it's on.

Design

How your site looks lives one stop down the same Settings sidebar, under Design. Three things live there:

  • Colors — the colors your site is built from, your brand color, backgrounds, text. Switch the mode to dark and fill in colors to give your site a dark mode; leave them blank and it stays light-only.
  • Fonts — a heading font and a body font, if you want specific ones.
  • Corner style — how rounded buttons and cards look: Square, Subtle, Rounded, or Pill.

Anything you leave blank falls back to Site Star's own design defaults.

Ask Site Star

  • Match my logo's colors
  • Change the brand color to #1B4DFF
  • Use rounded corners on buttons and cards

And if you'd rather not pick colors and fonts yourself, do it the way you do everything else: send a request like "match my logo's colors" and Site Star sets it up for you.

In Settings → Design, set colors, fonts, and corner style, then save.
