Help guide

Your domain

Your site can run on your own web address. You can connect it yourself in a few steps, or just ask and Site Star sets it up for you.

Add your domain

Ask Site Star

  • Connect example.com to my site
  • Add www.example.com as well

Site Star adds the domain and sends you the DNS records to add at your registrar (step 2).

Or do it yourself in the Site Star dashboard

Make sure you're on the Website tab, then open Settings in the sidebar and click Domains:

  • Type your web address (for example, example.com) and click Add domain.
  • If it's the address you gave when you started the site, there's a one-click shortcut to connect it.
  • Tick Also add the www or non-www version so visitors reach you either way.
Add your web address, and optionally its www or non-www pair.
2

Add the DNS records

As soon as you add a domain, Site Star shows the DNS records to add at your registrar, the company where you bought the domain. Copy each record with the Copy button and add it at your registrar. The records stay on the domain until it verifies, so once a domain is connected you won't see them anymore.

Sometimes Site Star offers more than one way to connect (for example a CNAME or a redirect). If so, pick just one option and add those records.

Ask Site Star

  • Send me the DNS records for example.com
  • I'm stuck on the DNS records, can someone help?

Only you can sign in at your registrar, so that's the one step Site Star can't do for you. Ask for the records any time, and if you get stuck, ask for help and a real person gets in touch.

Or do it yourself in the Site Star dashboard

In Settings → Domains, each pending domain lists its records with a Copy button next to each one.

Site Star gives you the exact records to add at your registrar.

Site Star verifies it

DNS changes can take a few minutes to a few hours. Site Star checks automatically and updates the status. Each domain shows where it stands:

  • Awaiting DNS Waiting for your records to be added.
  • Verifying Site Star is checking the records.
  • Active The domain is connected.
  • Live Your primary address, the one visitors land on.
  • Failed Something's off. Double-check the records, or reply in your inbox for help.

Ask Site Star

  • Is example.com connected yet?
  • Why did example.com fail?
Or do it yourself in the Site Star dashboard

In Settings → Domains, each domain shows its status. Once you've added the records, click "I've made the change — check now" rather than waiting for the next automatic check.

Set your primary address

When a domain is Active, make it primary to serve your site on it. That domain then shows as Live, and it's the address visitors land on.

Ask Site Star Not supported yet

Site Star can't do this one for you yet. Check back soon; for now, the steps below do it in the Site Star dashboard.

Or do it yourself in the Site Star dashboard

In Settings → Domains, click Make primary next to an Active domain.

Removing a domain

You can remove a connected domain you no longer use, and Site Star asks you to confirm first. Your primary address can't be removed directly, so your site is never taken offline by accident. To move off it, make another domain primary first, then remove the old one.

Redirects: when a page moves

A redirect sends anyone who lands on an old address straight to its new home, so when a page moves or gets renamed, the old link keeps working instead of dead-ending, which matters for visitors and for your search rankings. It takes effect the next time your site publishes.

Ask Site Star

  • Redirect /old-page to /new-page
  • We renamed the services page. Set up redirects from the old links.
  • Which redirects do I have?

Not sure which old links to catch? Describe the page that moved and Site Star sets the redirects up for you.

Or do it yourself in the Site Star dashboard

Right below Domains in the same Settings sidebar is Redirects.

  • Click Add redirect, enter the old path (like /old-page) and where it should redirect to, another page on your site or a full web address.
  • Your redirects show in a list as old path → new destination, with Edit and Remove next to each.
